Pravni Vodnik allows users to ask questions about Slovenian law in natural language, ranging from specific legal articles to broader legal topics. After submitting a question, the application retrieves relevant legal sources and generates a structured, readable document that explains the answer and cites the underlying legislation.

The application is built as a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system. RAG addresses the limitation of using large language models on data they were not trained on by retrieving relevant external sources at query time. The system combines techniques such as semantic search, query expansion, reranking, and controlled synthesis to produce answers that are explicitly grounded in authoritative legal texts.

The same technology can be applied well beyond law. Similar systems can be used in medicine to explain clinical guidelines, in science to explore research literature, in finance to navigate regulations, or in companies to search and understand internal documentation. In simple terms, this approach helps people find reliable answers in large, complex collections of text, especially in fields where accuracy matters and guessing is not an option.
